He founded the Cheshire based https://www.10000donors.com campaign to encourage people to sign up as potential stem cell donors, after realising how hard it is to find a match with only 2% of the UK and 0.4% of the global population signed up. He is still looking for his own match but his campaign has found 12 for other patients world wide. In support of his cause, he’s teamed up with award-winning singer songwriter Lee Gordon; a veteran of the underground music scene, to produce a song he hopes will mobilise the world to remedy a very fixable problem. To do something that could not only save his life, but also the lives of tens of thousands of others. On the 24th January 2020, Lee Gordon will be officially launching his single, The Tide with its first exclusive play on BBC RADIO 2 26th Jan. 2020 Go to https://www.10000donors.com/the-tide for videos links to purchase and stream The song takes you through 3 years of Pete’s life since diagnosis. It touches on his highs and lows and lays bare the brutal reality of living with cancer. Taking on words from his blog, the song hits home the very harsh truth, that unless he finds a stem cell donor, Pete may only have 4 more Christmas’ left with his wife Jenn and 2 boys Max and Seb. “I wanted this song to break your heart and then put it back together, which is what happened when I read Pete’s blogs” says Lee. “I want to do him and others in his position justice. The Tide is that inevitability, the new life you find within when facing such a reality in yourself and with loved ones. I hope people get it, I hope they can hear the heartbreak and euphoria in it. I hope it moves them to get involved to help save lives” “This isn’t a ‘pity me’ story, it’s about being proactive and taking control of an awful situation. This is not about money. It’s about awareness. We don’t want your money we want your time” says Peter. “This song will save lives by raising awareness about the existence of the global stem cell register and encourage people to sign up as stem cell donors. Everyone has the power, the potential within themselves right now to save lives by registering” McCleave adds. “More than 33,000 registrants have signed up since I launched my campaign – but there aren’t enough donors for everyone who needs one, and people are dying for want of a match”. The Tide, will be available to download or stream on all major digital platforms. For more information on how to sign up to the stem cell register, go to: https://www.dkms.org.uk/with-peter All proceeds will got to support DKMS in their work to get stem cell donors. Stem cells from a matching donor could be a cancer patient’s last chance of survival. Anyone aged 17 to 55 and in good health can join the register. Research shows that younger donors provide better outcomes for patients but anyone in the age band can sign up for the chance to save someone’s life. Mixed race donors are in particularly short supply, which means that multiracial patients with rare blood diseases have an even harder time finding a bone marrow match. The global stem cell register is run by DKMS, an international non-profit organisation with offices around the world and millions of potential donors registered.
